KOTA KINABALU (Sept 2): The Serbian government has extended an invitation to the Sabah State Government to send students to pursue undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in Serbia.
Republic of Serbia Honorary Consul in Malaysia, Datuk Zulkifli Amin Mamat, stated that the offer includes the costs covered by the Serbian government.
“We are planning to invite the State Government to send selected students to Serbia, where their studies will be fully funded by the Serbian government to undertake undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels studies,” he said.
He said that Sabah, with her unique attractions, beautiful islands and beaches, could be of interest to Serbian citizens.
“We are currently encouraging Serbian citizens to travel and instead of going to other countries, why not visit Sabah since Serbia does not have beaches?” he said to the media after paying a courtesy visit to Sabah Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Monday.
Zulkifli added that the visit aims to strengthen ties between Malaysia and the Republic of Serbia.
“Today’s visit is part of a series of official visits to state dignitaries to inform them about the opportunities that can be explored by both parties, particularly in the education and tourism sectors,” he explained.
He also mentioned that there are currently fewer than 100 Serbian nationals in Malaysia, most of whom are professionals working in Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.
Zulkifli was accompanied by his officer Datuk Jeffry Mohd Ali.
