KUCHING (March 11): Sada Purrfect stands as a showcase highlighting the diversity and energy of Iban independent music scene.
To be staged at Purrfect Studio in Batu Kawa here this March 21, the event will feature six bands.
Organised by the studio with support from Serakup Pemuzik Dayak, the event’s curtain-raiser is scheduled at 7pm.
“The participating bands will perform Iban songs across a mix of genres including pop-punk, alternative rock, post-hardcore and modern rock,” said the organiser in a statement.
Among the performers is Scarlet Letters, a five-piece pop-punk and alternative outfit formed last year by musician HSW, also known as ‘GhostedGhost’. The Sibu band has released several singles online and is currently working on its debut extended play (EP).
Also from Sibu is De’LYMA, a band that blends elements of pop-punk, thrash, nu-metal and metal-core in their repertoire.
Formed in 2023, the group has released several singles.
Kanowit will be represented by JDS, an act established in 2004.
This ensemble incorporates Iban lyricism with post-hardcore and ambient sounds.
S.A.D (Sapa Aku Dikerindu), meanwhile, is an alternative rock band formed in 2010, known for their emotionally driven compositions.
Representing Kuching are Radak Nyawa and Saint Venus.
Formed in 2023, Radak Nyawa describes its style as ‘Radak Sound’, combining gritty and melodic alternative rock; while Saint Venus, formed in 2024, draws inspiration from 1990s guitar-driven rock.
“This showcase aims to highlight a growing movement of Iban musicians exploring alternative music, while expressing their cultural identity through the language,” said Purrfect Studio.
