KUCHING: A total of 21 schools in the Santubong constituency are set to benefit from the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) Students’ Breakfast Initiative, gearing up for the impending examinations.
Federal Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri stated that the initiative is designed to provide breakfast to students before their exams, with each school allocated RM5,000 for this purpose.
“The aid is set to be distributed to schools in the Lundu area by Jan 29,” she said after officiating the Outstanding Student Appreciation Ceremony at SMK Santubong on Thursday (Jan 25).
Earlier, 104 students received aid of RM50 each, sponsored by Yayasan Kebajikan Negara under the ministry, aiming to assist them in purchasing school supplies ahead of the SPM examinations.
“This assistance benefits students by enabling them to acquire necessary equipment before facing the upcoming SPM examinations,” she added.
Nancy, who is also the Santubong MP, noted that this initiative has been in place since her tenure as the MP for Batang Sadong, now expanding to benefit the Santubong constituency.
She acknowledged the challenges faced during the initial phases of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government but expressed gratitude for the continued support, pointing out a more organised approach this year.
“We aim to support students in pursuing higher education at local universities or colleges by providing financial aid.
“This aid aims to alleviate the financial burden on parents, enabling them to purchase necessary learning materials. The assistance varies based on the region across Sarawak, tailored to the specific needs of each area,” Nancy added.
