Sapphire Wong scents the name Sarawak, winner of Miss Universe Malaysia 2026

KUCHING, 12 Oct: Sarawak's daughter Sapphire Wong has won the title of Miss Universe Malaysia 2026 thus making Sarawak a household name on the national stage.

Sapphire, 33, who is a housewife and mother of three children, described the opportunity to represent Sarawak in the competition as an honour and meaningful experience that helped her recognize her potential as well as understand the importance of unity.

"I am so touched by the support of Sarawak's family and community, I never expected to receive such great support from beauty pageant fans outside Sarawak", she said.

He said this when meeting with reporters shortly after arriving at Kuching International Airport today, following the final match held in Kuala Lumpur on 2 October.

He said that this year's competition was fierce with 13 other participants from different backgrounds taking part, and the spirit of mutual support among the participants made the experience more meaningful.

She also shared her experience with her roommate, Amreet Kaur who is also a mother and public pronunciation teacher who helped her prepare for questionnaires during the competition.

"The decision to join the competition was driven by her desire to re-identify herself and prove that women still have the potential to achieve their dreams even after becoming mothers.

"I became a mother at a very young age, yet I still believed that I had potential. I want to bring good not only to the family but also to Malaysia, Sarawak and the world", he said.

She hopes her story can inspire women, especially mothers, to remain confident and not limit their potential based on their role in the family or society.

Meanwhile, Sapphire is confident that Miss Universe Malaysia 2026 winner Eunice Wong will be able to represent Malaysia at the Miss Universe 2026 pageant scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico.
