SAR operation ends with recovery of fisherman’s body off Tanjung Sirik

DARO (Dec 13): The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a man, who was reported to have fallen into the sea off Tanjung Sirik here on Thursday, concluded today following the recovery of the body.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Manis Zone director, Commander Mahkos Juing, said the body was spotted approximately 3.5 nautical miles northwest of Tekajong Beach by fishermen who were assisting in the SAR.

“The body was brought to Kampung Tekajong jetty for verification by the Ministry of Health, and identification by family members,” he said in a statement.

The victim was later confirmed as the missing fisherman, Aldin Rakli, aged 59.

The body was subsequently handed over to the police and transported to Daro Hospital for further procedures.

With this discovery, the Forward SAR base and all operations involving field assets were officially terminated at 1.20pm.

Mahkos extended his condolences to the victim’s family and expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the operation, particularly the supporting agencies, fishermen and local villagers.

MMEA also advised the maritime community to avoid going out to sea during bad weather and to strictly observe safety procedures at all times to prevent untoward incidents.
