KUCHING: The Sarawak paralifting team continues to dominate the event on the second day of competition at the Para Sukma XXI, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Youth and Sports Department here today (Sept 25).
In the morning session, Johannes Gabriel Chew, 17, from Kuching managed to obtain the two gold of the day, lifting 91kg in the 49kg for best lift and top lift. However, he was unsuccessful in his 100kg attempt.
In the women’s category 61kg and above, Bibiana Ahmad, 36, from Lawas obtained the two gold for best lift and top lift, lifting 95kg, breaking the previous record held by Kedah’s Sona Agon, which was 80kg. However, she failed in her attempt to lift 98kg.
Rosanani Kasim secured the bronze medal in the same category, lifting 70kg in the third round.
In the afternoon session, Mohd Firdaus Affandi secured the two gold medals in the 80kg for best lift and top lift, lifting 125kg, while Brownson John Gustin managed to secure bronze medal for top lift, lifting 93kg.
The medal ceremony for the morning session was officiated by Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, the chief political secretary to the Premier; while in the afternoon session, the medal ceremony was officiated by Deputy Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus.
As of 4.41pm, Sarawak is leading the medal tally with 52 gold, 35 silver and 43 bronze medals.
