KUCHING, Sept 14: The Sarawak Customs Department has seized 10 luxury vehicles valued at over RM8.1 million during a recent raid in Kuching.
Its director Norizan Yahya revealed that the vehicles were confiscated during a raid on Sept 2 at a premises where the vehicles were stored.
“Inspection results show that the 10 luxury vehicles, of various brands, did not comply with the conditions stipulated under Section 75(b) of the Customs Act 1967,” Norizan said.
He added that the total value of the seized vehicles is estimated at RM3,145,000, while the duties and taxes involved are estimated at RM4,984,825.
Norizan explained that the company’s modus operandi was to move vehicles that had not yet been cleared by the Customs Department to an unlicensed premises or warehouse, an offense under Section 65 of the Customs Act 1967.
“The case is being investigated under Section 138 and Section 75(b) of the Customs Act 1967,” he added. — DayakDaily
