KUCHING (Aug 17): Sarawak Energy is taking comprehensive measures to ensure reliable electricity supply for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI.
It said it is deploying additional resources across the games venues, stepping up as part of its commitment to the Sarawak government to help ensure a successful event.
“As a gold sponsor, Sarawak Energy is fully committed to supporting Sarawak as it hosts the Games for the third time. Our role is to ensure a reliable supply of electricity, which is essential for an event of this scale,” said Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco) chief executive officer Lau Kim Swee, according to a press release today.
Sesco is the utility arm of Sarawak Energy.
Sarawak Energy said this year’s Sukma, which spans nine divisions namely Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri, features 488 events across 37 sports, making uninterrupted power supply crucial to its success.
It said under the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, Sarawak Energy is providing technical support and deploying mobile generators at key venues.
According to Lau, all possible precautions have been taken to prevent disruptions at the venues and their technical support teams will be on standby 24/7, ready to address any issues including quick restoration if there is a supply interruption.
“We are deploying about 100 technical staff across all venues, ensuring immediate response to any potential issues. Our team is prepared to handle any power supply situation to ensure the success of Sukma XXI,” he added.
Sarawak Energy is also focusing on preventative measures, including the maintenance and inspection of power lines and cables at each venue to ensure the infrastructure can meet the event’s demands.
Additionally, generator sets will be installed at key competition venues statewide to provide reliable backup support.
“Sarawak Energy remains focused on delivering reliable electricity supply for Sukma XXI and future events across Sarawak, reinforcing the company’s role in the region’s development and commitment to service excellence,” added Sarawak Energy.
Over 12,000 participants including 9,927 athletes and 2,692 officials are converging at Sukma XXI for diverse sports such as aquatics, athletics, weightlifting, badminton, cycling and gymnastics.
Following Sukma XXI, the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) 2024 will be held here from Sept 22 -28, featuring 10 sports and 334 events.
With approximately 2,470 athletes expected to compete, Sarawak Energy is equally committed to ensuring a reliable power supply for these events.
