Sarawak GOF scores RM18 mln-haul in February raids

KUCHING (March 4): The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) recorded seizures amounting to RM18.34 million during 13 operations conducted across the state throughout last month.

Brigade commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said raids conducted in Serian, Sri Aman, and Bau saw the arrest of six foreign nationals and one Malaysian for smuggling controlled goods and frozen food products.

The foreigners were also found to be without valid documents, he said.

“The seizures included 3,200kg of shallots, 300kg of frozen food products, cash, mobile phones, and several vehicles,” he said in a statement.

Lim said other raids conducted in Saratok, Miri, Sibu, Kota Samarahan, and Limbang saw seizures of 136,400kg of frozen food products, forklift, cold storage facility, processing machines, and vehicle.

He added that 10 Malaysian suspects were also detained for further investiga-tion during the raids.

“Another operation in Selangau involved the arrest of two local men on suspi-cion of illegal logging, with 26 logs and heavy machinery valued at over RM2 million seized,” he said.
