KUCHING (Aug 27): The Sarawak Government, through the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to regulate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In a press statement today, NREB said PTTEP Sarawak Oil Limited has become the first company to submit its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission report under the Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emission) Ordinance, 2023.

“The Ordinance, which came into force on March 1 2024, mandates that business entities in the energy and oil and gas sectors must register with NREB and submit their GHG emission reports by Aug 28, 2024.

“This submission marks a crucial step towards ensuring compliance and transparency in environmental practices within Sarawak’s energy and oil and gas industry,” it explained.

NREB said the Sarawak Government remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing sustainable development and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

“The submission of GHG emission reports, as mandated by Ordinance, underscores the effectiveness of Sarawak’s robust regulatory frameworks in ensuring accountability and environmental stewardship within the energy and oil and gas sectors, it added.
