The Sarawak government will unveil a new assistance package next week to help Sarawakians cope with the rising cost of living.
Sarawak premer Abang Johari Openg said the details of this package will be announced after the state Cabinet meets next week, adding that it would involve “substantial funding”.
“There is more assistance to be given in the coming week. Due to the current situation and the cost of living, I will announce the details next week after our Cabinet meeting as it requires substantial funding.
“But Alhamdulillah, we can implement it with the funds we have today,” he said according to the Sarawak public communications unit (Ukas).
This comes amid the economic fallout of the Middle East conflict involving Iran, Israel and the US, which has led to a surge in oil prices.
There have been several calls for the federal government to announce a stimulus package of sorts in response to the energy crisis and its wider impact, although Bank Negara Malaysia said there was no immediate need for this at the moment.
