KUCHING (March 3): Sarawak sealed five strategic technology partnerships at the 2026 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, reinforcing its push to accelerate digital transformation and expand its global presence.
According to a press release, the memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged during the launch of the Sarawak Pavilion on Tuesday, marking a key outcome of the state’s participation at one of the world’s largest technology gatherings.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said Sarawak’s presence at MWC reflects its commitment to strengthening digital innovation, expanding international partnerships, and positioning itself as a leading digital economy in Asean.
“MWC 2026 provides a platform for Sarawak to showcase its digital ecosystem, investment opportunities, and advancements in smart infrastructure, connectivity, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, semiconductor, and emerging technologies,” he said in a speech delivered by his deputy Datuk Liwan Lagang.
Beyond the agreements, MWC 2026 allowed Sarawak to showcase its digital ecosystem and investment potential to global industry leaders, in line with its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.
Members of the Sarawak delegation included the ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, Sarawak Multimedia Authority general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Sacofa Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Jafer Sadiq Abdul Lathif, and SAINS chief operating officer Andrew Chien Kai Bing.
