Sarawak lawn bowlers edge closer to podium finish

KUCHING: The Sarawak lawn bowls team is edging closer to the podium after securing yet another victory in the next round at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena, Petra Jaya, today (Sept 25).

The host’s representative, Ahmad Bashirun Ismail, defeated Kuala Lumpur’s Abdul Qayyum Ismail with a score of 21-0 in the Men’s Singles B6 Group E category.

In the Women’s Singles B2 Group P category, Then Chiew Yen also dominated the field with a big win, defeating Pahang’s Wan Hajar Adilah Wan Mohamud with a score of 21-6.

This stylish performance was mirrored by Nur’Azreen Azirah Mohamad Azelan, who managed to defeat Perak’s Annie Lim Suit Wai with a score of 17-11 in the same category and group as Then Chiew Yen.

Additionally, Dayangku Aisah Awg Taha contributed another victory by defeating Pahang’s Noornadia Amran with a score of 21-13 in the Women’s Singles B1 Group R category.

Meanwhile, Sun Wan Ting secured a narrow 11-10 victory over Perak’s Chan Ee Ven in a tough and competitive match.

These wins have qualified all five Sarawak athletes to advance to the next round.

Haizam Mohd Alli recorded a tight victory with a score of 17-16, defeating Perlis’ Akhbar Kamis in a thrilling match in the Men’s Singles B8 Group P category.

In the Men’s Singles B6 Group X category, Nischal Nischolas Bujang had to concede defeat as Sabah’s Donny Timol Owai won with a score of 21-9.

Similarly, Shariffah Naimah Hamizah Syed Abdul Hadi, a representative in the Women’s Singles B8 Group X category, was defeated by Johor’s Nurhidayu Ishak with a score of 13-21.

Despite some losses, the Sarawak athletes remain determined to give their best in the upcoming rounds.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and Federal-State Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali visited the competition venue to offer her encouragement to the home athletes.

Also present was Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (Community Wellbeing), Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, who is also the Sarawak contingent chef de mission.
