A 47-year-old man was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by the Kuching magistrates’ court in Sarawak today after pleading guilty to slapping and injuring an 11-year-old boy.
Dayak Daily reported that Zaiden Amran entered his plea after the charge of voluntarily causing hurt was read before magistrate Shafiza Abdul Razak Tready.
The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to a year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the charge, the offence took place at about 9.30pm on March 11 in Kampung Asajaya Ulu, Asajaya.
The victim’s father was informed that the 11-year-old had been assaulted by a man who suspected the boy of puncturing one of the tyres of his van.
The boy denied doing so, and his denial was corroborated by other witnesses at the scene. He sustained bruising on his left cheek as well as visible slap marks on his face, and complained of pain in his right arm.
He was treated at Sarawak General Hospital, and his father subsequently lodged a police report, leading to Zaiden’s arrest.
Police investigations revealed that Zaiden admitted to slapping the victim three times on the left cheek in an assault witnessed by the boy’s friends.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Fadzri Azham Zainudin while Zaiden was represented by lawyer Arthur Liang Dawat.
