KUCHING, Aug 30: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd has awarded a contract valued at RM804,700,982.36 to Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd and China Road & Bridge Corporation for Package 2 of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Blue Line.
The contract involves the construction of approximately 11 kilometers of the Blue Line, stretching from Stutong to Hikmah Exchange.
According to a press release from Sarawak Metro today, the scope of work under the contract includes the construction of dedicated at-grade and elevated lanes, stations for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), road widening, and other essential infrastructure enhancements.
The project attracted a total of 13 tender submissions by the closing date on July 4, reflecting significant interest in this key infrastructure initiative.
In a related development, Sarawak Metro also awarded the Bus Integrated System (BIS) contract to a joint venture company consisting of Shorefield Sdn Bhd, China Huaxin Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and Kentkart International LLP.
This contract, including optional items, is valued at RM55,500,000 and encompasses the design, engineering, procurement, manufacture, supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of the BIS for the feeder bus service.
The hydrogen-powered feeder buses under this contract will provide crucial first and last-mile connectivity, supporting the ART network for the KUTS project.
The JV Company will also participate in Sarawak Metro’s Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme, which focuses on developing local human capital and the supply chain for the modern public transport industry.
Sarawak Metro received five tender submissions for the BIS contract by the closing date on July 1, indicating a competitive bidding process for this vital component of the KUTS project. — DayakDaily
