KUCHING (March 6): Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd is collaborating with DOM EEB Joint Venture International Sdn Bhd (DOM EEB JV) to provide internships for final-year students of Politeknik Kuching.
The collaboration, conducted through Sarawak Metro’s Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme, offers a four-month internship with DOM EEB JV, which is Sarawak Metro’s System Package 2 contractor for Phase 1 of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.
Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa witnessed the exchange of the Letter of Collaboration between DOM EEB JV and Politeknik Kuching.
He lauded DOM EEB JV for providing the students with the opportunity and encouraged active engagement throughout the internship.
“I am very happy that our contractor is fulfilling our requirement for knowledge transfer through our SEED Programme, especially to develop the pool of local skilled manpower for the public transport industry,” he said.
He added that achieving the programme’s objectives requires mutual commitment and trust from all partners.
DOM EEB JV was represented by its project director Alex Wong Leh Kui, while Politeknik Kuching was represented by its director Mohamad Nazri Ismail.
“Through the internship, the selected students will gain exposure to DOM EEB JV’s activities in providing the various systems for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART),” Sarawak Metro said in a statement on Thursday.
Interns will also learn technical competencies and safety practices related to hydrogen-powered vehicle maintenance and KUTS operations.
For this first intake, nine students from Politeknik Kuching will participate, with Sarawak Metro targeting a total of 100 students over the course of the programme.
The initiative is part of Sarawak Metro’s ongoing effort to develop a competent blue-collar workforce through the implementation of the KUTS project.
