MIRI (March 18): A total of 168 residents from eight longhouses near Bintulu have received prescription spectacles sponsored by Sarawak Oil Palms (SOP) Foundation following a vision screening programme held on Nov 22 last year.

The beneficiaries are from Rumah Buli, Rumah Unjie, Rumah Randi, Rumah Ramli, Rumah Kalip, Rumah Janggu, Rumah Kawie, and Rumah Luming.

The handover ceremony was held at Rumah Buli after a screening session conducted in collaboration with Miri Specvision Optometry, during which about 250 residents underwent free eye examinations and consultations.

All the prescription spectacles provided under the programme were fully sponsored by SOP Foundation.

Kuala Tatau 2 Estate estate manager Sam Lim Kien Hock, who officiated at the event together with estate manager Diskensky Dix, said the initiative had brought meaningful support to the residents.

“Many residents from the longhouses expressed their heartfelt gratitude upon receiving the prescription spectacles.

“They shared that the support will greatly help them in their daily activities,” said Diskensky.

The foundation also extended its appreciation to the estate teams, Miri Specvision Optometry and the longhouse communities for their cooperation and support in making the programme a success.

SOP Foundation added that more vision screenings and spectacles handovers are planned throughout the year to benefit more local communities.
