KUCHING, Sept 11: Sarawakian athletes who have secured medals at the Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI Sarawak 2024 will receive the same cash incentives as those awarded to Sukma medalists.

Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah stated affirmed that similar incentives will be extended to Para Sukma athletes to ensure they are equally rewarded for their achievements, on par with Sukma 2024 medalists.

“Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has previously set the incentives at RM15,000 for gold medalists, RM5,000 for silver, and RM3,000 for bronze,” she said in a statement issued by Malaysia Information Department (JAPEN) Sarawak on Tuesday (Sept 10).

Yesterday, Fatimah led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri Sarawak.

The visit was aimed at inviting Wan Junaidi and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi to attend the official opening ceremony of Para Sukma Sarawak 2024, set to take place at the Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya on Sept 22.

This year’s Games will run from Sept 22 to 28 entirely in Kuching, featuring 10 sports and 328 events.

Also present during the visit were Deputy Minister of Women and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, permanent secretary to the Ministry Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua and Social Welfare Department director Semawi Mohamad. — DayakDaily
