Sarawak’s bowling squad continues golden run at Para Sukma 2024

KUCHING, Sept 26: Sarawak’s para bowling team continued their golden streak on the second day of the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) 2024, clinching two more gold medals in the women’s singles TPB4 and open doubles TPB9 categories.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, star bowler Nur Syazwani Marais secured her third overall gold medal at Para Sukma, this time dominating the women’s singles TPB4 category in para tenpin bowling.

Reflecting on her performance, Nur Syazwani said: “Today’s (Sept 25) game went really well. I managed to catch up and build new momentum.”

She remains optimistic about her upcoming events, particularly the mixed doubles, where she will team up with Abg Yahya Abg Azhar, her gold-winning partner from Para Sukma Kuala Lumpur.

In the open doubles TPB9 category, the dynamic duo of Marcos Chang Hao Hong and Wong Kee Soon also secured gold medals, further boosting Sarawak’s medal tally.

With these victories, Sarawak’s para bowling team bagged a total of three gold medals on the second day alone, adding to the three gold medals they claimed on the first day of the event.

This brings their overall total to six gold medals at Para Sukma 2024.

Present at the event were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Assistant Chef de Mission (ACDM) for the Sarawak contingent’s tenpin bowling team, Mohamad Duri, and other distinguished guests.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Dr Sim expressed his pride and support for the Sarawak tenpin bowling team after their impressive performance at the Para Sukma 2024.

“Keep up the high spirit and great teamwork, which is more important in Para Sukma,” he encouraged the athletes, emphasising the significance of collaboration and morale in the competition.

He also extended his congratulations to the Amateur Bowling Association Sarawak (ABAS), noting that Megalanes Sarawak at Emart Batu Kawa has been regarded as the best bowling centre in Malaysia, further boosting the State’s chances of success. — DayakDaily
