KUCHING: Sarawak is making a four-day ‘Gateway to Borneo’ pitch at Queensbay Mall, Penang.
Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the campaign, perfectly captures the essence of Sarawak.
“Today marks an exciting new chapter as we bring Sarawak, the “Gateway to Borneo,” directly to your doorstep in the Pearl of the Orient.
“Gateway to Borneo, is more than a tagline, it’s a declaration of our intent to position Sarawak alongside our neighbours and highlight the entire Borneo experience.
“We are not just showcasing a destination, we are inviting you to experience the heart and soul of a land like no other, a place where nature and culture exist in perfect harmony, and every journey leads to unforgettable moments,” he said.
Abdul Karim said this in his speech read by Sarawak Tourism Board chairman Datuk Dennis Ngau during the launching of the Sarawak Gateaway to Borneo Fair at Queensbay Mall, Penang on Friday (Oct 11).
Scheduled from Oct 10 to 13, the fair invites Penangites and beyond to experience the authentic essence of Sarawak firsthand as the fair offers diverse exhibitors showcasing authentic local crafts, foods, and beverages such as Batik Sarawak, Kek Lapis Sarawak, and
Tuak Borneo.
“At the core of our tourism offerings is a unique combination of Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food, and Festivals (CANFF),” he said.
“These pillars are what truly set us apart and each element plays a vital role in showcasing Sarawak’s diverse experiences.
“From skilled food artisans to talented artisans and passionate tour operators, we’re here to offer you an authentic taste of Sarawak. With daily cultural performances, from the enchanting sounds of the Sape to batik-making demonstrations, you’ll be fully immersed in Sarawak’s vibrant heritage,” he said.
He also said that with the added convenience of a direct flight from Kuching to Penang, now available seven times a week, exploring Sarawak’s rich landscapes has never been easier.
“This fair is a testament to the growing connection between Sarawak and Penang, bridging our local businesses with new audiences and travellers seeking authentic experiences.
“We aim to strengthen these bonds, create new opportunities for collaboration, and highlight why Sarawak is quickly becoming a favourite destination.
“By the end of this year, we aim to welcome 4 million visitors, with 3.3 million already arriving by August which is a clear sign of Sarawak’s rising appeal as a must-visit destination,” he said.
