KUCHING (Oct 2): The setting up of Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Brunei (Statob) in neighbouring Brunei will have a good impact in terms of economic returns to Malaysia, said Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan.

He pointed out the Statob office, which would be declared open by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg tomorrow (Oct 3) will bring overall positive value to the country.

“If it gives a high economic return to Sarawak, it will add value to the country. So we very much welcome good relations between Sarawak and any country that shares economic interests,” he said according to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

He was speaking after leading a courtesy call by the federal civil service to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana today, which was attended by a total of 182 officials from 52 federal departments and agencies from the development and economic sectors.

On the courtesy call, Ahmad Nadzri said it was held in response to many requests from federal departments and agencies who wanted to pay a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak.

He hoped that this courtesy call would strengthen cooperation and communication between the federal and state governments in ensuring continuous development in Sarawak.
