KUCHING, May 11: Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has expressed hope that AirBorneo will improve air connectivity across the State particularly by enhancing access to rural and interior areas.
In his opening address at the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) here today, Wan Junaidi described the formation of the Sarawak-owned airline as a significant step towards strengthening both domestic and regional air links.
“I hope AirBorneo can improve flight accessibility to Sarawak, including the interior areas of Sarawak,” he said.
He added that the initiative could help stimulate tourism from outside Sarawak as well as within the State’s interior regions, while also helping to stabilise airfares to Sarawak.
“The move would also reduce dependence on the scheduling and commercial considerations of existing airlines.
“A modern and efficient land and air transportation ecosystem remains crucial in strengthening Sarawak’s overall development,” he said.
He stressed the implementation of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system reflects a strategic move to modernise urban public transportation through hydrogen technology in line with the State’s clean energy and green transportation agenda. — DayakDaily
