MIRI (Aug 16): Sarawak’s Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024 women’s rugby team is targeting at least one bronze medal, said Sarawak Rugby Sports Development officer Rohizat Achop Borhan.
He told The Borneo Post that the women’s team have been well prepared physically and mentally for the Games and to face teams from other states.
As for the men’s team, he said, if they can get through the quarterfinal, it is highly likely for them to win a medal.
“To achieve the level of confidence they have today, we even hired psychologists (for the women and men’s teams).
“Of course, it also depends on the situation that they will face later,” he added.
Asked on the unpredictable weather that is happening in Miri now, Rohizat said both the women and men’s teams have been playing in different locations and countries, and faced different circumstances, and therefore would have no issue adapting to the weather in Miri.
“In fact, they have been practicing in Miri since January, adapting to the local weather.
“We have confidence, just that the players need to control their emotions and physical. Pairing with the strategy that we have arranged, we hope for the best,” he said.
The rugby event will have a trial game this Sunday (Aug 18) before the official games kick off on Monday (Aug 19).
