Sarikei District Council bags award for ministry’s environmental health campaign

SARIKEI (Oct 10): The Sarikei District Council (MDS) placed second in the Local Authorities Awards for the ‘Stray Animal Management’ category of the federal Housing and Local Government Ministry’s Environmental Health Campaign.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit in a statement said the campaign was held in conjunction with this year’s World Environmental Health Day.

The awards comprised six categories: Clean Public Market; Clean, Attractive and Nice-Smelling (BMW) Local Council Public Toilets; Eradicate Rat Infestations; Stray Animal Management; Prevent Dengue; and Eradicate Dengue Hotspots, it added.

MDS secretary Sait Enggang received the certificate and plaque from Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman ​​Athirah Sabu at the awards presentation ceremony held in Selangor on Oct 8.

In the statement, MDS expressed its gratitude and appreciation to all parties involved, including Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab; the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Ministry; Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak Sarikei; Sarikei Health Department; National Unity and Integration Department Sarikei; and local community leaders.

The council also hoped that this cooperation and support will continue for their next activities aimed at promoting community health and well-being, as well as a sustainable environment.
