KUCHING (March 16): A second suspect has been charged with the murder of a 37-year-old Indonesian satay stall worker at Jalan Lumba Kuda, off Jalan Penrissen Lama, here last November.
The 30-year-old man was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which was read with Section 34 of the same Code, before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
Section 302 carries the death penalty or a jail term of between 30 years and 40 years upon conviction, and if the death penalty is not imposed, the offender shall also be punished with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.
No plea was taken as the offence falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
No bail was offered to the accused and the court fixed April 23 for further mention of the case.
The offence was allegedly committed on the road where the victim’s body was found between 1.47am and 2.37am on Nov 23 last year.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
Last December, a 35-year-old man was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, in relation to the case.
Separately, a 60-year-old man was charged under Section 201 of the Penal Code for allegedly directing the deletion of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage linked to the case.
The case was investigated by ASP Steel Entai, assisted by Insp Musyiri Johari and Sgt Maj Ridvaner Haddi.
Previous reports stated that the victim was employed by the 35-year-old accused, who runs a satay stall at a food court at Jalan Sekama here, which is owned by the 60-year-old.
