KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) thanked five persons who acted swiftly to rescue the Ibu Pertiwi flag after it fell into the Sarawak River during a heavy storm yesterday (Sept 2).
DBKU, in a statement, praised the prompt actions of the five security personnel stationed at the square, who immediately retrieved the flag from the river around 11 pm last night.
The city hall also confirmed that a new flag was hoisted early this morning to replace the one that had fallen.
“Let us together deepen and embrace the spirit of love for our country. This is the unity and spirit that we must demonstrate for future generations,” DBKU said.
The flag, which was hoisted at Ibu Pertiwi Square, was dislodged from its pole due to strong winds and heavy rain.
A 43-second video clip of the incident, shared by local radio station Cats FM on Facebook, captured the moment when the flag fell and landed near the waterfront.
Shortly after, DBKU released a statement confirming they had been informed about the incident and that the flag would be replaced.
