SIBU (March 9): A total of 723 Muslim welfare recipients in Sibu Division received Aidilfitri contributions under the Welfare Department’s Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya programme held on Monday.
State Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development II (Community Wellbeing Development) Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said the recipients, from Sibu, Kanowit, and Selangau districts, each received RM100 in cash and a festive hamper worth RM80.
“Through this programme, the government hopes that those less fortunate will also be able to experience the joy of celebrating Aidilfitri,” he said during the ceremony.
For recipients unable to attend, cash contributions will be credited directly into their bank accounts.
Razi also advised beneficiaries to use the assistance wisely, noting that the aid reflects the government and community’s concern for vulnerable groups.
“Use this support prudently and let it motivate you to continue improving your livelihood.
“Even when life is challenging, do not give up and keep seeking opportunities to enhance the well-being of yourself and your family,” he added.
The initiative, implemented for more than two decades, demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to assisting vulnerable groups, especially during festive seasons.
According to Welfare Department statistics, 5,670 individuals in Sibu Division currently receive monthly welfare assistance, involving an allocation of RM2.57 million per month.
Also attending the programme were Temenggong Stanley Gramong and Welfare Officer Uwieng Gimos.
