KUCHING (Aug 2): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a man RM2,900 in default six months in prison for having 0.07 grammes of methamphetamine in his possession.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali convicted Adrian Ambas, 31, on his own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
According to the case facts, a police team arrested Adrian around 2pm on March 21 last year in a security guard’s room belonging to a government premises at Jalan Puncak Borneo.
He was arrested due to suspicions of his involvement in drug-related activities.
Police inspected his sling bag and found a small transparent plastic packet containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine weighing 0.28 grammes.
The drugs were sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia for analysis.
The results showed the substance was methamphetamine with a net weight of 0.07 grammes.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while Adrian, who is from a village in Serian, did not have legal representation.
