MIRI (Aug 17): Some 80 representatives from 17 Petronas petrol stations across this division attended a fire safety talk, held at Lutong Fire and Rescue (Bomba) station here on Thursday.

Jointly organised by Petronas Task Force SW04 and Bomba Lutong, the session hosted participants from Miri, Kuala Baram, Bekenu, Batu Niah and Marudi.

Taskforce SW04 head Saldina Abdul Salam, who represented the territory manager (TA SW04 – Miri, Bintulu, Tatau, Samalaju, Marudi, Limbang) for regional sales-sarawak retail fuel division Prescila George Likai, said the fire safety talk was the first ever held here.

“We like to thank the Bomba Lutong station chief Henry Jugah and his men for the arrangements, allowing our participants to learn about the importance of fire safety.

“In fact, back in 2019 and 2020, our representatives previously attended talks that were also conducted by Mr Henry before he was transferred to Bomba Lutong.

“So, we are delighted to have this opportunity for a collaboration again this time,” said Saldina.

The participants were first briefed by Henry on the background and history of the Lutong station, followed by a session conducted by senior fire assistant II Mohammad Faizul Ali, who briefed those attending on the proper use of a portable fire extinguisher, complete with a demonstration.

In his closing remarks, Henry thanked the Petronas Taskforce for choosing Bomba Lutong to conduct the fire safety talk. He also reminded the participants to always be aware of the proper way to handle a fire incident.

“More importantly, be aware of your surroundings, like open-burning.

“The hot weather is still going on and there have been several bushfires caused by open-burning.

“We hope the employees of Petronas petrol stations would always be alert and should such incident occur, they would curb it before it spreads further,” he added.

Also present were Petronas retail area manager in non-fuel sales and operations (Sabah and Sarawak) Chow Wei Chan, the business partners and Petronas crew members.
