Several roads in Kuching city centre to close from Oct 8-Oct 10, Oct 12 for TYT birthday

KUCHING (Oct 7): Several roads here will be close from tomorrow to Oct 10 as well as Oct 12 to make way for the 78th birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Padang Merdeka.

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the main event, which includes a parade and grand gathering, will commence this Sat (Oct 12) from 6am-12pm.

“In this regard, to facilitate the smooth execution of the programme and traffic flow, the Royal Malaysian Police will implement road closures on the following dates, times and locations,” he said.

On Oct 8 and 9, the roads that will be closed from 6am-12pm for the event’s rehearsal are the RTM traffic light road and slip road to Padang Merdeka, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg from Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Gambir to Padang Merdeka as well as Jalan Wawasan to Padang Merdeka.

On Oct 10 and Oct 12, the affected roads are the RTM slip road/traffic light to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Wawasan from Wayang Street, Jalan Main Bazaar from Wayang Street, Temple Street, Jalan McDougall and from the Old Court House road heading to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.

On Oct 10, the roads will be closed from 6am-12pm for the event’s full rehearsal while on Oct 12, the roads will be closed from 4am-12pm for the parade and grand gathering.

“Members of the public are advised not to park along the roadside and to plan their journey using alternative routes to reduce traffic,” said Mohd Farhan.
