SIBU (Oct 15): The Sungai Merah police station here will receive an allocation of RM200,000 for repairs and upgrades.

In announcing this, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang said during his visit to the station last month, he found significant damage to the building, particularly a serious leak in the roof.

“During my visit, it happened to be raining and I saw for myself how bad the leak was.

“I have promised the officer on duty there that I will implement more repair projects to deal with this problem.

“We must help the police force, because they always help us,” he said during a town hall session entitled ‘Bicara Jenayah: Kesiapsiagaan Mendepani Isu Jenayah’ at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here yesterday.

Tiang, who is Pelawan assemblyman, said the first project under the allocation will be the installation of street lights.

He said the road to the Sungai Merah police station is dark and needs proper lighting for public safety.

Among those present at the townhall session was Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Ibrahim Darus.
