SIBU (Oct 14): Sarawak Society for the Blind (SSB) Sibu raised RM167,276 from its 46th Open House cum Food and Fun Fair yesterday.

Top performers for the event were recognised during an event last night.

The most outstanding performance in coupon sales went to WTK Recreation Club with RM63,000, followed by Tanahmas Hotel Recreation Club (RM24,000) and SMI (RM22,000).

WTK Recreation Club also emerged first in the most outstanding performance in open house sales with RM58,000.

Riverfront Morningwalk members were second with RM26,020, while Datin Lilian Chian came in third with RM17,843.

The top three best decorated stalls were WTK Recreation Club, Sibu Boy Scouts, and SUPP Pahlawan.

Among those present were guest of honour Datuk Ding Lian Cheon as well as SSB Sibu deputy chairperson and open house organising chairperson Datin Sri Judy Lau.

In his speech, SSB Sibu chairman Clarence Ting said he hoped the 19 organisations involved in the open house will continue to contribute to the blind society.

“We are in the central region of Sarawak. So, we are not only helping blind and visually impaired in Sibu, but also helping those in Kapit, Mukah, and so on.

“So, we are very grateful that you are helping those people who are visually impaired for various reasons through the funds that you have raised. And this is why this project – this open house is so important,” he said.

Sarawak Society for the Blind president Datuk Dr Hsiung Keo Yun said the society’s other branches in the state are in Miri and Kuching.

He promised that all funds raised will go towards helping blind and visually impaired persons.
