SIBU (Aug 3): More than 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2024 from Aug 8 to 17 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 and Phase 2 here.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, who is also BCF organising chairman, said with the festival celebrating its 20th anniversary, there is an expected increase of participants to join its festivities.
“For past editions, the council recorded approximately 15,000 to 20,000 visitors during the 10-day celebration.
“This year, we expect 30,000 visitors,” he told reporters when met after chairing a BCF 2024 organising committee meeting yesterday.
Speaking on the Participatory Design Conference (PDC) to be held during BCF, Izkandar said numerous conference delegates are expected to witness the region’s cultural heritage for the first time.
“We even have performers of Shaolin Temple from China. They are set to perform Kung Fu like Jet Li,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian is expected to grace the grand parade on Aug 9, while Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is set to officiate the closing ceremony on Aug 17.
