SIBU (Aug 29): Sibu is ready to host the state-level National Day celebration as preparations are going very well, said Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai.
“It is all systems go. We are doing very well now. So, this is our final rehearsal tonight, and it is doing very well.
“That is why I want to see the final rehearsal,” the minister in charge of the celebration told The Borneo Post when met at the Chancellor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s Hall at University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here tonight, adding that there has been no hitch during the preparations and rehearsals tonight.
Also present at the rehearsal was Deputy State Secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee.
The celebration will kick off with the National Day countdown concert at the Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here on Aug 30, with about 5,000 people expected to attend.
A free ‘Fun Walk’ event would take place on Aug 31 from 5.30pm at the Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang.
Sikie said the highlight of the celebration would be the National Day celebration assembly at the Chancellor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s Hall at UTS, which would start at 11am on Aug 31.
Expected to attend are Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
