SIBU (Oct 28): Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili has assured that the security situation in Sibu is still under control.

He dismissed talks on social media that Sibu is ‘keras’ (loosely interpreted as unsafe) following a shooting incident at Lorong Wong King Huo 21 here last Friday.

“The police will take collective action in the investigation of this case. No problem. There is no (security) issue,” he told reporters when met after the monthly police parade at Sibu police headquarters in Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here today.

Regarding the shooting case, Zulkipli stated that the weapon used by the suspect was believed to be a shotgun.

He said the 46-year-old victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, is still receiving treatment at a private medical centre here.

“Our background check found he (the victim) has five previous criminal records,” he revealed, adding that only one shot was fired by the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

In another incident, Zulkipli mentioned that the police will conduct a thorough investigation into a case involving over RM300,000 stolen from a parked car at Jalan Kampung Nyabor here on Friday.

“This includes reviewing footage from the bank’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) and car dashcams to identify the suspects,” he said.

It was previously reported that a 27-year-old employee of a company lost RM301,231 when a man smashed her car windscreen and stole the cash. The victim had withdrawn the cash, belonging to her company, from a bank prior to the incident.
