KUCHING, Feb 20: A flash flood struck Kampung Batu Gong along Jalan Kuching–Serian early this morning, forcing firefighters to help residents evacuate to a safer location.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 5.50am via NG999 reporting floodwaters entering a house at No. 44, Kampung Batu Gong.

Firefighters from Siburan station were immediately deployed and arrived at the scene at 6.02am, about 12 kilometres from the station.

Upon arrival, the Operations Response Team (PKO) found low-lying areas flooded with about 0.30 metres of water and continued monitoring the situation.

The caller requested relocation to a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS).

The Bomba Operations Centre (PGO) contacted the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to relay information for further action.

A total of six residents were affected, including four adults (two men, two women) and two elderly persons (one man, one woman). — DayakDaily
