ADVERTISE HERE

MIRI (Dec 16): The temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at SMK Suai in Subis district was officially closed at 11.30am on Tuesday after floodwaters had completely receded.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the decision followed inspections by relevant agencies, which confirmed that affected residential areas were safe for residents to return home.
“Only one PPS remains in operation — the Miri Red Crescent (MRC Miri) centre — housing four evacuees from a single household as of Tuesday morning,” the committee said in a statement.
Batu Niah fire station chief Rary Binjie said the weather had improved.
“Batu Niah fire station will continue to monitor the situation and advise residents to remain vigilant about water levels,” he said.
A total of three PPS here, including two in Subis district, were activated last week after continuous heavy rain caused flooding in low-lying areas and triggered landslides.
The Niah area was among the worst affected, with several villages and residential areas submerged and sections of roads damaged by the floods.
