KUCHING, Oct 1: A minor smoke incident occurred this afternoon at the specialist clinic block of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), prompting a swift response from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
According to a statement, the source of the smoke was identified as a burnt bearing in an air handling unit (AHU) located on the second floor of the physiotherapy unit.
The malfunction led to smoke being released through the air conditioning system, which subsequently activated the building’s smoke detectors.
The emergency call was received at 1.09pm, and the team arrived on-site within three minutes at 1.12pm.
Upon arrival, Bomba personnel conducted a thorough inspection and investigation of the premises to ensure there were no further risks.
Once the situation was deemed under control at 1.30pm, the team handed over the site to the hospital’s maintenance department and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) for further action.
Operations concluded without any injuries or casualties reported, and the team returned to the station at 1.50pm. — DayakDaily
