KUCHING, July 1: The SEAM (Social Enterprise Accelerator Malaysia) Connect recruitment drive in Sarawak will take place at the TEGAS Digital Village on July 5 from 2.30pm to 5pm.

The Biji-biji Initiative, in collaboration with IKEA Social Entrepreneurship, has launched the SEAM with the objective to drive positive change and empower marginalised communities across Malaysia.

According to the press statement, SEAM offers local social enterprises a wide variety of resources aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills, such as the 12-month tailored business growth programme, the pool of growth funding of as much as USD200,000, and the chance for social enterprises to contribute to Malaysia’s social enterprise ecosystem.

Enterprises in Malaysia that focus on empowering vulnerable and marginalised communities, including people with disabilities, migrants, refugees, lower-income groups, and indigenous communities, are encouraged to apply.

Social enterprises dedicated to the circular economy and waste management, renewable materials and sustainable agriculture, raw materials and reforestation, aquaculture and marine conservation, as well as inclusive employment, are eligible to apply for SEAM.

Apart from that, the eligibility of the social enterprises will also be assessed according to the criteria listed below as well:

  • Social Enterprises must be scaling stage organisations with a minimum of 2 years in operation;
  • The organisation must align with at least one of the programme’s thematic priorities;
  • A clear business model and a focus on making an impact;
  • Show positive profitability projections, indicating financial sustainability;
  • Legally registered entity with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) or Registrar of Societies (ROS);
  • Highly motivated, committed to scaling their business and impact, and willing to fully participate throughout the programme
