KUCHING (Sept 27): St Joseph’s Private School held a ground-breaking and site blessing ceremony yesterday (Sept 26) for its new school building.

Students, teachers, and staff gathered for the events on the site between St Joseph’s Private Primary and Secondary Schools at Jalan Nagor here.

“The ground-breaking ceremony and prayers marked the official start of construction of a building that would serve both schools,” said Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Archbishop Simon Poh, who led the ceremony and prayers.

The RM16.5 million four-storey building will have a multipurpose hall the size of three badminton courts, an extended state-of-the-art library and resource centre, a spacious dining area, a music room and dance studio, science labs, as well as a green courtyard with smart learning spaces.

The building will also have a sub-level parking for staff members.

Poh leads prayers for God’s blessing upon the new project.

In his brief address, Poh stressed the importance of education and the role that schools play in development and nation-building.

He said the new learning spaces would aid in this while providing a solid foundation for a new generation of students formed in the tradition of St Joseph’s.

The expansion will provide the school community with better facilities; accommodating its growing student and teacher population, he added.

Among those present were St Joseph’s Private Schools chief executive officer Christopher Chua, St Joseph’s Private Secondary School acting principal Rev Stanley Goh, and St Joseph’s Private Primary School headmistress Shirley Chong.
