KUCHING, Sept 26: Students from St Joseph’s Private Primary School (SJPS), St Joseph’s Private Secondary School (SJPSS), and St Joseph’s International School (SJIS) have once again showcased their musical talents by sweeping gold in all three categories at the Malaysia International Wind Festival 2024, held on Sept 21-22 at the Panasonic Sports Complex in Shah Alam.

With relentless passion and dedication, these gifted young musicians captivated the audience and judges alike, earning their place in the spotlight.

Their hard work culminated in a groundbreaking victory, proudly highlighting Sarawak’s top musical talents on the national stage.

According to a media release, the SJPS Percussion Ensemble won gold in the Scholastic A Concert Percussion Ensemble category, while the SJPS Concert Band secured gold in the Scholastic A Showcase Class 3. Additionally, the Kuching Wind Symphony claimed gold and was crowned champion in the Open Division Concert Band Premier Class.

Senior assistant of Student Development Benedict JC Lo emphasised that these achievements extend beyond mere awards as they reflect the remarkable journey and growth of these young musicians.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our students. They’ve shown that with teamwork, discipline, and a passion for music, anything is possible,” he said.

The Malaysia International Wind Festival 2024 is a prestigious platform for wind orchestras and percussion ensembles, gathering the finest musical talents from across the country.

This incredible victory not only highlights the talent of the students but also the dedication of their teachers and coaches, as well as the overwhelming support from their families and the community.

The schools also recognised Wilson Tan Joo Lung, the visionary band director, for his leadership and commitment, which were pivotal in guiding the musicians to success.

Following the competition, the students had the opportunity to perform at a concert band exchange with SM Pay Fong in Melaka. This event allowed them to showcase their talents on a broader platform while fostering connections with fellow student musicians.
