MIRI (Oct 8): Associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been asked to step up their efforts in helping the needy.

In making this call, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting reminded local associations and NGOs of the importance of their social responsibility and charitable welfare that is much needed in today’s society.

“Every segment of society requires support and assistance from caring organisations.

“It is highly encouraging to see them demonstrating responsibility by providing their services, giving back to the community, and working together, so as to foster community development and harmony,” said the Piasau assemblyman.

Ting said this when receiving a courtesy call from Persatuan Prihatin Masyarakat Miri (PPMM) at his office here recently.

During the visit, organising chairman Lee Jun Tak informed Ting that PPMM will hold a community outreach programme for residents in Long San and Long Keluan, Telang Usan, taking place from Oct 11 to 12.

“The two-day community service event will involve 80 participants, comprising healthcare workers, dentists, firefighters, barbers, sponsors, and volunteers, travelling in 21 four-wheel-drive vehicles,” said Lee.

In this regard, Ting lauded PPMM for their dedication to community assistance, which demonstrates their spirit of service by initiating a significant programme in the remote region of Telang Usan.

“Every year, PPMM organises large-scale programmes for the purpose of supporting rural communities, meant to address the living needs of the villagers.

“Their efforts help to build a more caring and harmonious society, ensuring that those in need receive the attention and support they deserve,” he added.
