KUCHING, Nov 2: A stray cat tested positive for rabies in Dalat, Mukah, this week, underscoring that cats, like dogs, can contract and spread the rabies virus.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that this case highlights the importance of recognising rabies risks in all pets.
“Authorities have been proactive in conducting anti-rabies vaccination campaigns across Sarawak as part of our ongoing efforts to eradicate rabies from the region,” he stated during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.
Wee took the opportunity to remind pet owners of the critical importance of keeping their pets up to date with annual vaccinations.
“It’s essential not only to protect our pets but also to safeguard our families from this serious disease,” he stressed.
He urged the community to take this issue seriously, reiterating that the health of both pets and humans is at stake in the fight against rabies. — DayakDaily
