KUCHING (Sept 11): Several streets near the Kuching Waterfront will be closed this Saturday and Sunday (Sept 14 and 15) from 4pm to 10pm in conjunction with the 39th National Chinese Cultural Festival.
The organisers said in a press release that the affected roads include Gambier Street, Court House Street, the section in front of the Old Court House, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Main Bazaar and the Merdeka Plaza exit at the Waterfront.
They added that during daytime, only one lane of the road in front of the Old Court House will be open.
“The organisers are urging road users to avoid these sections of road during this time, and apologise for any inconvenience caused to the public,” said the press release.
The activities will begin tomorrow (Sept 12) with a torch relay that will travel from Serian to Samarahan and then Kuching.
A big stage will be set up in front of the Old Court Clock Tower at the Waterfront Park for the creative lantern parade competition, cultural performance, and closing ceremony of the festival, starting at 5pm on this Sunday (Sept 15).
Meanwhile, colourful cultural celebrations will also take place around Carpenter Street, featuring lantern-making contests at the Feng Shan Temple Theatre and mooncake-making demonstrations at the Waterfront.
The 39th National Chinese Cultural Festival is promoted by the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, hosted by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak and organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching Samarahan and Serian Division Sarawak.
