SIBU: Students of SMK Kampung Nangka now have a dedicated gathering space after an open area at the school was converted into a cemented area.

The RM120,000 project, funded under the Pelawan Rural Transformation Project (RTP), was completed a month ahead of schedule.

During a site visit today (Aug 2), Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the cemented area would serve as a gathering point for students, especially those in the afternoon session while waiting for the morning school to end.

However, Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, expressed dissatisfaction with the uneven surface and cracks on the cemented area, directing the contractor to rectify the issue immediately.

On future plans for the school, Tiang said his role is limited to minor projects such as toilets, roofs, and culverts due to education falling under federal jurisdiction.

“I hope the MP can provide more funds from the federal government to help schools with essential needs to upgrade their facilities for the benefit of our children,” he said.
