KUCHING (Aug 26): Sarawak’s badminton athlete Wong Ling Ching, who won the women’s singles event at the just-concluded 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma XXI), received an incentive today.

The incentive was handed over to her by Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain at the SBA Hall, Jalan Lapangan Terbang here.

Wong when met expressed her appreciation for the support given to her for representing Sarawak at Sukma.

“Thank you to the Sarawak government and Tan Sri (Abdul Aziz) for giving me the opportunity to represent Sarawak.

“I will maintain the momentum and perform better in the next tournament,” she said.

Meanwhile, when met, Abdul Aziz said SBA and its coach will try to ensure the association’s players have the potential to move to a higher level.

“I hope with the victory recorded at Sukma, in addition to the great performance by the players, the sports council and state government will recognise SBA to contribute medals at the next Sukma.

“Now we see with what we have — a new team helped by a coach who always trains the players well. I hope we can do well for the tournament after this,” he said when met after the handing over ceremony.

He also expressed his appreciation to those who have provided funds for SBA.

“With the available funds, we can provide better facilities for players to get proper training,” he said.

Also present were Sukma badminton team manager Ting Ching Zung and assistant coach Mohamad Razlan Shah.
