Sukma XXI: Randy Owen bags seventh gold for Sarawak in taekwondo

KUCHING (Aug 16): Randy Owen Augustine Linggi won the taekwondo men’s pomsae event today, bagging Sarawak’s seventh Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI gold medal.

He scored 7.80 in the event, outperforming Zhi Yeap of Perlis who won silver, and Yi Woo Jun of Johor bronze.

Randy Owen also won a silver through the mixed pair pomsae, as he and Ying Seah Jing could only manage second place behind Perlis pair of Zhi Yeap and Wong Zin.

The Perlis pair outscored their opponents with a score of 8.34 to win gold while Randy Owen and Ying managed a score of 7.96.

Wong Zin also won Perlis’ second gold medal through the women’s pomsae invidual event, with a high score of 8.24.

Willemien Lai Lin of Sarawak was one of the bronze medalists.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg came to witness the events in the afternoon and also handed over the prizes.

Also present was Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli who also handed over the prizes.

Sarawak’s assistant chef-de-mission for taekwondo Azizul Annuar Adenan when met in the morning hoped that the Sarawak contingent would be able to surpass the Sukma medal target for taekwondo of four gold medals.
