SIBU (March 18): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan, led by the branch chairman Councillor Kevin Lau, continued its community outreach by visiting the Paradom area to assist the underprivileged groups.

During the visit on Tuesday, the team presented cash assistance to two kidney dialysis patients, Nazri Sazali and Morshidi Ali Ahmad, to help ease their financial burden.

Both patients had earlier approached Lau during a ‘buka puasa’ (break-of-fast) event to share the challenges of covering medical expenses.

While the Social Security Organisation (Socso) covers part of their dialysis treatment, additional costs for medication and injections remain, creating a significant financial strain.

Lau said his team would follow up by applying for welfare aid through the relevant government department.

“Hopefully, with government support, the patients would receive more comprehensive assistance to ease their family burdens,” he said.

He also thanked local community leaders, including Penghulu Wong Ung, for coordinating with government agencies and Kapitan Tang Siew Kiew for monitoring community needs.

Lau added that the team would continue engaging with grassroots communities and addressing the needs of all ethnic groups, aiming to provide meaningful support and foster unity in society.
