SIBU (July 25): An elderly longhouse resident here was gifted a wheelchair yesterday by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development Team to assist him with his mobility.
Team leader Councillor Kevin Lau said Ngaoh Jelong frequently visits Sibu Hospital for follow-up treatment due to his age and frailty.
“He is relying solely on his cane, and moving about has become increasingly difficult for him.
“Fearing for his safety, that he might fall if not careful, his family had hoped for a wheelchair to help him with his mobility,” he said when visiting Ngaoh to present the wheelchair.
Lau added that Ngaoh’s relative Jemat Lanyon, who is a former Sibu Rural District Council councillor, had relayed the family’s wish for a wheelchair to the Bawang Assan Community Development Team.
“We will do our best to assist the people in Bawang Assan within our capabilities and help them to improve their overall quality of life,” he said.
