Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak presents Ramadan aid totalling RM160,500 to 550 recipients

KUCHING (March 9): A total of 550 recipients received financial assistance totalling RM160,500 from Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) on Sunday.

The aid was part of TBS’ annual Ramadan care programme, which will see 9,140 individuals being given a total of RM2.53 million this year.

TBS general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie handed out the assistance during a ceremony here.

He explained the recipients consisted of heads of households and individuals who are dependents under TBS’ Bantuan Sara Hidup subsistence aid.

He said some of the aid will be channelled through various Tahfiz centres.

“In addition, Batuan Sara Hidup totalling RM960,300 is being distributed to the selected beneficiaries to assist them in their preparation for the forthcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” he said in a statement.

He added that this assistance will either be credited into recipients’ bank accounts or handed over in cash.

Meanwhile, Abang Mohd Shibli reminded all Muslims to pay zakat fitrah (tithe) to the 780 appointed ‘amilin’ or administrators throughout Sarawak.

“For those who are able to pay zakat harta, they can make payments at the nearest TBS office counter or via the Baitulmal Kamek portal,” he said.

He added that zakat harta payments can also be made through TBS collection agents at Public Bank, CIMB Bank, Bank Muamalat, Pos Malaysia, Maybank, Affin Bank, Agro Bank, Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, MYEG, and Tulus.

As of Jan 31, TBS has distributed RM9.93 million to eligible asnaf throughout Sarawak.
